Workshops

At the heart of a successful lantern festival is all the people who’ve made lanterns and come out to carry them in the parade or install them in the park. This is why the lantern-making workshops before the event are such an  important part of the festival. When you turn around in the middle of the procession and look back down the hill to see hundreds of tiny (and not so tiny) lights flickering in the dark, this isn’t a show that any one person has organized but the combined imagination of an entire community.

You can make lanterns at one of our  workshops, OR you can make your own.  Here are a couple of patterns to try:

Already built a lantern this year, and want to move on to something wilder next year? You can design and build an installation with the support of our lantern team. We’ll provide the supplies and show you how to make an installation safely. Again, contact us early so we can we can reserve a space for you in the park.  Find out where and when you can make your own lantern in our workshop schedule.
