Volunteer:
BE A PART OF THE ART!
The Annual Lantern Festival is scheduled for the last Saturday in July
every year and plans are quickly coming together to make this year as beautiful as the
last. To make this festival as vital as it is every year we always get the
community of St. John's involved in the activities.
Here are some of the ways you too can get involved!!!
Lantern making
Twice a week we hold lantern building workshops at our Victoria
Park pool house. If you or a group are interested in making a
lantern (s), let us know and we can set you up, give you all the
instruction and materials you'll need, for FREE! There are also Sat
afternoon workshops for small children. Don't forget all our
workshops are open to individuals and families!!
Workshop leader
If you happen to already know how to make lanterns you can help at
the workshops by teaching others how to do so. From simple glass jar lanterns to large framed and constructed
bamboo lanterns,
the workshops can accommodate any age and skill level.
Festival security
On the day of the event you can be a fire marshal in charge of a water pump
extinguisher and or crowd control person to make sure the event goes
smoothly. (we have not had one fire so don't worry) For
people 18 or over only.
Festival set up and or break down
To set up the lantern installations
and or to help break it down at the end of the night! Starting @ 1:00
pm in the day our main lantern installation goes up and then at the end of the night @
11:00 we take it all down and store it back in the
pool house. This is important for us to have some help, otherwise no
festival!!!
Performance
We have a diverse mix of artists come to the festival
every year and each year we like to expand on our community out reach including
more of the wonderful talent happening in our city. From daytime
music, face and henna painting, juggling and drumming to fire
performances and other musical acts through out the park....we want
you!!
Community partners
Another way to get the community involved is to have
organizations in St. John's set up information booths and activity areas to
inform/involve and entertain the people at the park. If you are part of a community group,
grass roots organization, or even theater troop we'd love to have you involved
and to take part in the daytime festivities!
Posters
We need to get posters up where ever we can to ensure that as many
people as possible know about the festival. If you know of locations
around town that can use a poster, YOU can help.
Please let us know if you have an interest in being involved in the Victoria Park Lantern Festival
and if you have any ideas to make it better, so we can arrange things accordingly.
